CHRISTUS Medical Centers - Central Texas

At CHRISTUS Medical Centers, pregnant, laboring, and postpartum Moms are supported every step of the way. Your birth team can assist you with writing up a personalized Birth Plan that is tailored to your needs and your vision. Birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum classes, taught by certified instructors, are available at their many locations across Texas. Call 877-250-3627 to register for classes.

Mother-baby bonding and attachment is supported in many ways, including:

  • All baby care being completed in your hospital room
  • Moms and families getting one-on-one instruction and personal assistance with taking care of their newborn – from feeding to diapering to care of the umbilical cord.
  • Breastfeeding support with trained Labor Nurses, certified lactation consultants, and lactation educators
  • Encouraging skin-to-skin contact within an hour of delivery

CHRISTUS Health Center for New Life has been recognized as a “Texas Ten Step Program” facility from the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Texas Ten Step Program encourages breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding for newborns and infants. CHRISTUS Health has also earned the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) Care Award for excellence in lactation care! They even support their own employees by providing a secure environment for breastfeeding mothers who are returning to work, which has led to them being recognized as a Texas Mother-Friendly Work-site!

CHRISTUS also offers a Midwifery program! A nurse-midwife (CNM) is an advanced nurse practitioner who provides professional health and wellness care to pregnant mothers and newborns. Their education and training include an advanced degree. Your CNM plays an instrumental role in ensuring that you and your baby receive a continuum of skilled care during pregnancy, childbirth and in the important days and weeks after birth.
